Pull Up A Chair...
Welcome to The Content Table.
"The What?"
This will be part blog, part tiktok, part whatever else I think of where I’ll be doing the thing I love most in the world, reading. Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Comics, Manga, Non-Fiction, Classics, Philosophy, all of it. If it has pages, I’m about it.
“Why are you doing this?"
I’ve been reading since I was 4 and growing up the way I did, looking the way I did (poor black kid from a bad part of town) I didn’t have much to look at other than the occasional local crackhead or police helicopter. Books were a window. A way to see other aspects of the world, of lives I never thought about, places that don’t exist, a way to understand people I didn’t have everyday access to.
Stories are important, blueprints on how to human. Books have changed the path of cultures, added to the rise and fall of nations, started movements, kept us company on those long road trips, was our companion into the late night when you hit that GOOD part, and most importantly they’ve changed hearts…a skill we seem to be lacking these days.
What I’m getting at is books are important to me, and they’ve made me who I am. I know I’m not the only person who feels this way and I want to participate in the online world of bookworms who are just as passionate and those also looking to join but aren't sure where to start.
I’ve always wanted to try something like this for a while, and now seems as good a time as any.
"Ok, but it's called Content, isn't it books?"
I’m calling this project The Content Table for a few reasons, one it’s a weak play on the "Table of Contents" that every book has, but also the idea of a table; where you go to eat. I know “content” is a dirty word to a lot of people, but we consume so much entertainment today I think a wholesale word is needed to corral all the different types of media and storytelling that exist.
You are what you eat. You need help cutting through the junk to get to the good stuff, that’s what I hope this blog is for some. Helping with your media diet. Content isn’t bad in moderation. So, from this blog you can expect Book Reviews, retrospectives, Starter packs to certain authors, my thoughts on current literary trends, Book recommendations (im pretty good at those) and just whatever else I’m interested in at the time.
Besides from being a filmmaker I’ve also worked in Libraries, Bookstores, and also have friends in the publishing world here in LA, so hopefully I can use my expertise to shine a light you might not get somewhere else, but mainly, I’m just excited to talk about books and create a space for others to discuss and enjoy reading as well.
So join me and lets pull up a seat to the table.
